Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT tapping) is a powerful tool for releasing negative thoughts, overwhelming emotions, diminishing self-limiting beliefs, reducing stress, and much more.

Most people arrive at using EFT tapping via following practitioner's scripts and videos online or by working one-to-one with a certified EFT practitioner, which involves following what the practitioner is saying.

  • The first method, following practitioners online, is excellent when you're looking for inspiration and motivation to keep up your practice.
  • The second method, one-to-one with a practitioner, is fantastic for working through deeply rooted challenges like trauma, grief, heartache, anger, fear, phobias or shame.

But what about when you need to support yourself to move through a specific challenge as it's happening?

You don't have the time to search the internet for a video or a script that adequately describes your unique challenge, and you don't want to wait for an appointment with your practitioner. What do you do?

Good News! There is a more personal approach I like to call the 'Tap and Talk' technique that allows you to express yourself freely and release your challenge in a more personalized way.

Here's how to do 'Tap & Talk' in 5 simple steps ↓

  • Step 1: Identify the issue. Identify the challenge that you want to work on. It could be a specific emotion, thought, belief or any challenge you are experiencing.
  • Step 2: Drink some water! This is because when you tap on your acupressure points and talk about strong emotions, thoughts and memories, your sympathetic nervous system becomes active, dehydrating you.
  • Step 3: Start tapping. Begin tapping on each acupressure point with two fingers while focusing on your issue. As you tap, speak out loud about how you are honestly feeling, what thoughts are coming up for you, and anything else that comes to mind. For example, if you are feeling anxious, you might say, "Even though I feel anxious right now, I deeply and completely accept myself." Repeat this phrase or any other one that resonates with you as you continue tapping each point. Click here to learn → Where and Where Not to Tap When EFT is Tapping.
  • Step 4: Keep tapping and talking until you have nothing to say. Continue tapping and talking about your challenge and how it makes you feel until you feel a shift in your emotions or physical sensations. You may feel a sense of relief and relaxation, start yawning or feel a stress reduction.
  • Step 5: Drink some water. Always rest for a short while if it's possible.

Scripts and working one to one with practitioners like me are fantastic and have their place as they help you express and resolve your challenge using words, and in ways you might not be capable of doing by yourself, but the beauty of the 'Tap and Talk' technique is that it is personalized to you and allows you to express yourself and regulate your nervous system at the moment a challenge is occurring.

Give it a try and see the benefits for yourself.
