15 Weekly Reminders For Full-time Creatives

When you're working on your creativity full-time, it can be easy to forget the basic concepts and activities that can help your week feel more joyful and progressive. Here are 15 quick reminders:

  1. Believe in yourself. If you need some inspiration, think about how far you've come already.
  2. Focus on your THRIVE goals. When you plan your month, put your thrive goal task either at the start of each week or the month or, if you're a menstruating person, a few days after your period, when your energy starts gaining momentum again. 3. Expand your comfort zone. This often looks like learning something new, usually about progressing a task related to your thrive goals or something you're procrastinating over and need to build more confidence in, like bookkeeping or going live on social media to talk about your latest work.
  4. Do something courageous. Make a daring or bold move by reaching out to someone you want to work with. Try something totally different with your work by combining different styles or mediums.
  5. Refine your skills. Practice makes progress. The more you hone your craft, the more confidence you will naturally accrue in your abilities.
  6. Enjoy the process. The key to a comparison and perfectionist-free creative practice is to focus your efforts and energy on the process, not the outcome.
  7. Play. Not everything you make needs to have a purpose. Remember to create something simple for the sake of it.
  8. Celebrate the small wins. The end goal is the target, but the more you celebrate completing the small steps and milestones you implement to get you there, the more you'll enjoy the process and the more motivated you'll be to stay committed to following through.
  9. Pay another creative a compliment. Slow down and spread a little joy. Pay a creative whose work you like a sincere compliment by commenting on their post or sending them a DM.
  10. Pay yourself a compliment. At the end of the day or the end of each week, acknowledge something you did well or feel proud of.
  11. Show gratitude. Tomorrow is not guaranteed. Take a nice deep breath and a look around at everything you have and all the support you can be grateful for. Your computer, your desk, the people on Youtube making free tutorials, the air you're breathing, the strangers online that liked your post.
  12. Be patient. Because everything takes at least twice as long as you think it should.
  13. Dream big. Playing small never helped anyone reach their full creative potential, "Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars." - Les Brown.
  14. Rest. Take frequent breaks throughout the day, for without ample space to recalibrate, you will struggle to make space to receive new inspiration, ideas and solutions to challenges. Rest should never be seen as a reward, as it is a vital part of the creative process.
  15. Keep going. Motivation will naturally come and go, but building consistency with whatever tasks support and nurture you goes a long way.
